Exciting hanger information- Thanks to Rafael Garcia and Mike McIlheny who successfully presented our case at the Calhoun airport authority meeting, and were able to get their approval for a land lease for a hangar. The terms they approved were a $.03 per square foot per month initial rate for a 30 year lease. For our planned 3,000 sq ft hangar, that works out to a land lease of $90 per month. The rate increases modestly over time. The airport also approved our request to retain ownership of the hangar at the end of the lease and continue to pay a land lease rate after that. That prevents us from being evicted at the end of lease, losing our hangar investment and leaving us out in the cold because of a drastic increase in rent. We'll still have to wait for their attorney to draft the lease and that specific language, but we have accomplished everything we wanted with the airport authority--a permanent, affordable chapter hangar for EAA 268 members now and in the future. We now need to get the hangar committee going on vendor bids, site preparations, financing and hangar operational procedures. I expect that we'll be able to have a review of those items at our September meeting. With all of your support, I think we could move into a new chapter hangar before the end of the year.
