May 21 - Dave "Crossbow" Waldrop was our speaker for this meeting. We had a great turn out!  Operation "Rolling Thunder" was an aerial bombardment campaign conducted from 1965 to 1968 during the Vietnam war. Rolling Thunder was a very risky campaign in Vietnam where about half of the F-105's were lost. The Republic F-105 Thunderchief, affectionately known as the "Thud", flew the majority of strategic bombing missions in the early years of the Vietnam War. Dave "Crossbow" Waldrop was an F-105 pilot during that campaign who not only survived but flew more than 100 missions. He is one of the rare F-105 pilots who shot down a Mig-17. Dave is also an EAA member, built a Pitts back in the '70s and more recently flew Cessna 337s in Iraq. Dave will share his experiences flying the F-105 and offer an "insider's view" of the aerial war in Vietnam.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of powered flight, Utah State University engineering and industrial technology students, with assistance from the Space Dynamics Laboratory, designed, built, and flew a futuristic replica of the 1905 Wright Flyer. In a unique blend of past and present, students used state-of-the-art composite materials to build the aircraft. Nick Alley was the chief engineer, in charge of the design and flight worthiness of the aircraft. He gave a presentation outlining some of the aerodynamic challenges that we had as well as how we built the aircraft. He showed a clip from the History channel's documentary.

March 21 - On Saturday, March 21th a few of us took a quick cruise over to Moontown (3M5) for breakfast. Bill flew his Beechcraft accompanied by Konrad and son Chris, Wes and David flew their Piper and Rafael and Randy flew over in Rafael's fast and wonderful cabin class C172. These three flew in a covey (loose formation...very loose), staying in touch on 127.7 and it was a lot of fun. Also forming part of the chapter group were Jere and Kyle. Each of whom flew over in his RV. They sorta left just ahead of the rest of us and were done eating beakfast when we got there.  It's a good thing Moontown is so close, or they would have had dinner as well, by the time we arrived! Those RV's really fly! I think Jere really has a 500HP motor in Tweety Bird. Hey everyone...we would like for more of you to participate...Those of you with airplanes, come fly with us...Those of you without airplanes, we usually have empty seats. Breakfast was good and with a lot of people and planes over there. The Moontown breakfast seems to get bigger and better every time we go. They have set up a mini tower with a spotter/advisor and it sounds like the tower at Hartsfield...busy. I look forward to our chapter having it's own breakfast up at Calhoun. With everyone in the chapter participating we can make it an "event" fliers and friends from all over the area will want to attend. All together now...Chapter 268!...Rah! Rah! Rah! Rafael

Bill hosted a casual dinner (before the meeting) starting at 6pm.  Bill grilled some hamburgers and had chips, cookies and soda. (All four food groups!)

The meeting was held in his garage and then the group went down in the basement workshop to look around.  I thought it might be fun to start to cleco the fuselage together.  If anyone wants to do that, bring your own fluting pliers and/or cleco pliers.  I only have one or two of each.

Dave had an ulterior motive.  His objective was to use the chuck wagon, familiarize everyone with it and allow time for more socializing among our members.  Good job Dave!

January ? - Dave Holt went to Hansen's on 2/9/06 with Randy Bass to repair the broken tongue jack on the Chuck Wagon.  Someone had already replaced the jack with a new one.
