Past Events 2008 October 16 - Chapter's Annual Hanger Pot Luck was held at David, Mike, and Wes's Hanger at Cartersville Airport (VPC). Our October chapter meeting was a pot-luck hangar dinner, October 16th at 7pm at the Cartersville airport. September 18 - Our Chapter meeting was held at Jon Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY). August 21 - Our Chapter meeting was held at Jon Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY). Our speaker for the meeting was Jason Vallier. Jason is the local technical sales manager for Air BP Lubricants and he spoke about the goo-ey, gold and sometimes black stuff that sloshes around the inside of piston aircraft engines. He talked about the differences between multi-grade and straight grade oils, the true life of engine oil, and how to maximize the life of your engine through proper lubrication. August 16 - Our chapter went on a flyout to Moontown, AL (3M5). Here are some picture form the trip. July 17 - Our meeting was held at Jon Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY) Our speaker was Kristi Cherry. Kristi is a local sales rep for Cessna and brought her Cessna 400 demo airplane for us to look at. She also presented a slide show after which we were able to see the airplane up close.
June 19 - The subject for this
meeting was Soaring. Joe Flores and John Andrew from the Mid-Georgia
Soaring Association (MGSA)
were our featured speakers. They showed video clips and photos
that capture the essence of soaring and its many aspects that include
cross-country flying, records & badge achievement, contest flying, and the
capabilities of the modern sailplane. The requirements for adding a glider
rating to an existing power rating were discussed as well as how to earn
a Private Glider rating through
MGSA. June 7 - Chapter Fly was to Peach State Aerodrome. Event began at 1 PM. All airplanes welcome - Modern, Homebuilt, and Antique.
May 15 - The monthly meeting was held at Jon Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY). Our speaker was Dave Laskey. Dave Laskey is a former Navy F-4 pilot who flew off carriers in Vietnam. Thanks go to Joe Wolpert and Mike McIlheney for arranging for Dave to speak to us.

February 21 - We had a great chapter meeting to see David Anderson's BD-5 project. See some pictures of David's project here. Thanks to David for opening his home and to everyone who came for bringing sandwiches, chips, lots of cookies and more soda than we could drink. January 17 - Annual awards banquet at Sidelines Grille. This was more of a social occasion that a regular EAA meeting, so non-airplane people had a good time too. We played some games, watched a presentation and a video, talked a little bit about our plans for the upcoming year and present a few awards. 2007
November 15 - Our chapter meeting this month was a project visit to Mike Seymour's house. Mike is nearly finished with his Rotorway Exec helicopter and has completed his initial hover flight training. This was our last chapter meeting for the year.
November 3 - An Aircraft Electrical Workshop was held by Jere Rosser and David Posey. We had a good turnout and an educational two hours +. A bonus was a trip over to Air Acres to look at the turbine-powered Murphy Moose on floats that Jere has worked on. Hopefully we'll get some pictures here soon.
October 27 - Flyout to Knoxville, TN for lunch and to enjoy the fall foliage. All pilots met at Cartersville (VPC).
October 18 - Chapter's Yearly Hanger Dinner was held at Mike, Richard, and Wes's Hanger at Cartersville Airport (VPC) The chapter furnished the meat - BBQ. For those who missed the October meeting, we had a great time. In the meeting we elected two chapter officers for 2008. Robert Meggs will remain as vice-president. Rafael Garcia was elected as our new chapter secretary, replacing our outgoing secretary, Mike Casey. September 20 - Chapter Meeting was held at Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY)

We had a great chapter meeting last night at Ron
Russ' house. Thanks to Keith Estapa and Five Guys Famous Burgers and
Fries (http://www.fiveguys.com)
for providing the hamburgers and everyone who came for bringing chips,
lots of cookies and more soda than we could drink. We had 30 people in
attendance including a few first-time attenders and a few of Ron's
friends.
August 4 - Flyout. The Museum of Aviation, Warner Robbins, GA. http://museumofaviation.org/home.htm The museum is located near Robbins AFB. We flew into Macon Regional Airport (MCN) and then drove to the museum.
July 19 - Chapter Meeting for July was held at Jon Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY) from 7 - 9pm. The group discussed IFR flying and certification.
July 7 - The chapter had a Flyout to EAA chapter 611 in Gainesville and their annual fly in. The weather was iffy and only a few members attended.
June 21 - The Chapter had a project visit to Wesley Greer's house to see his Vans RV7A kit (wings) Twenty-three people enjoyed the event. There was a short discussion of chapter business then Bill Swatling talked about his Hawaii trip, more Sun-n-fun pictures, and finally Wes' project. Here are some photos of the event.

May 17 - Our May 17th chapter meeting was a project visit to Terry Cusak's new airpark home, hangar and CompAir project. Hamburgers, chips and sodas was available at 6pm with the meeting starting at 7pm. May 5 - Spring fly-in, Calhoun (CZL) Although the weather did not cooperate we held the event anyway. For those that attended we had hamburgers and hanger talk. April 26 - Chapter Meeting for March was held at Jon Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY) from 7 - 9pm. Sun-N-Fun was discussed. In addition, there was discussion of a possible chapter hanger.

Fly Out. This month was to
Peach State Aerodrome (GA2) in
Williamson, GA There is a restaurant on the field named Barnstormers Grill.
We met at Calhoun (CZL) at 10:00. Richard and Bill flew down to
the Peach State Aerodrome on 2/19 to check it out. Bill took some pictures
(click on one below to see the full size).

Richard's landing and another of the take-off from GA2. March 15 - Chapter Meeting for March was held at Jon Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY) from 7 - 9pm. Mike McElheny agreed to step in and be the speaker. He gave a GREAT presentation on aircraft maintenance including what maintenance items an owner can do. March 10 - We dodged another weather bullet for this flyout and managed to get another one off. The weather didn't look like it was going to cooperate but most participants showed up at CZL anyway. The VFR gods smiled upon us and the skies parted (for the most part) and we had another great flyout. Six airplanes and fourteen people made the trip to the Staggerwing Museum in Tullahoma TN. George, our gracious host and tour guide gave us an informative look back at the history of Beechcraft. The museum has quite a collection of early and even some late models of Beechcraft. I would encourage anyone who has an interest in aviation to make the short trip to Tullahoma to visit the Staggerwing Museum. Richard Video of Mike McElheny landing in Tullahoma HERE February 24 - EAA 268 sponsored a Fabric Covering Workshop Sat Feb 24 from 10am to noon at the Air Acres Museum. Liz and Randall Porter hosted the event. Sixteen builders showed up for some hands-on instruction by LIZ, SCOTT CHRISTIE, and MONTY THOMPSON. The attendees got a lot of hands on time with gluing and ironing in an exceptional learning session. DAVID POSEY, an experienced builder, grilled the hamburgers Liz furnished and the session finished up with lunch about 1:30. February 15 - Chapter Meeting was held at Jon Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY) Speaker: Wayne Roberts from Lockheed who is a C5 pilot and C130J test pilot. February 3 The second Fly-Out of the year was Saturday February 3rd. (We had a poker run, write - up to come) Some pictures for now..... January 20 Chapter New Year's Awards Dinner - EAA 268's chapter meeting for January was a dinner at the Bitter End restaurant in Roswell. We had a private room with a short presentation and awards. The event was a big success. A group of nine member and one guest flew to Pell City, AL (PLR) in six airplanes for lunch. We had lunch at Sammie's Touch & Go Restaurant. Sammy's is right at the end of the runway. Our new fly out coordinator, Richard Ogletree, did a great job with this one! Liz Porter (Warbird 17) and I organized a "Flying
Start" Rally to support Fernbank Science Center's Aviation Workshop for
Teachers, organized and taught by Debi Huffman. We had 11 teachers
show but one just could not be coaxed to fly. The others were flown by 268's
Bill Swatling, Mike McElheny, and Rafael "Jay" Garcia, Tiger Flight's Phil
Cataldo and Keith Walker, and 690's Jerry Shingleton. Terry Cusack and Mike
Casey handled ground ops and Terry had assumed coordinating responsibility
for me while I was in Minnesota the week prior. Each teacher got front seat
time and July 20 Our guest speaker for the July meeting was Jon Hansen. Jon owns the hanger where we have our meetings. He was kind enough to come by and talk to us about Light Sport Aircraft. May 20 The chapter spring fly-in was held at Calhoun (KCZL). Great turn out for the event and great fun. Here are some picture of the event taken by Richard Ogeltree. The fist four pictures cover the spot landing contest. The participants and the spectators enjoyed this event. If you have never been involved in this activity, I can say it was loads of fun. The last four shots are of the lunch. We had dogs and brats, yummmm. May 18 Our guest speaker for May was Dr. Eng. Andre R. Teissier-duCros. Dr. Teissier-duCros has references as management consultant covering some 300 corporations in North America, Europe and Japan. Andre is an aircraft owner, and an IFR private pilot. This month's meeting was a project visit
to Bill Swatling's House. He is building a Vans RV-7 and is working on the wings.
The
fuselage kit arrived a few weeks ago and is still in the crate in his garage.
March 16 - Ben Methvin was our guest speaker for this month's meeting. Ben is a member of Georgia Sportflyers and has over 2000 hours logged , including 1000 hrs. of instruction in the Flightstar II ('99 Sun N Fun "Best Assembly Kit"). Ben has considerable experience in a Kolb Firestar with Amphibious floats, Mini Max, and many other aircraft. Here is a picture of Ben during his presentation.
February 16 - Bob Ornsby was our guest speaker. Bob is retired from Loockheed and is on the board for the Marietta Air Museum. Bob was an interesting speaker for us. Dave Holt tried something different at this meeting. Dave prepared dinner prior to the meeting, served from the chuck wagon. The menu was be yakitori (chicken teriyaki on a stick) with stir fry and rice. Dave had an ulterior motive. His objective was to use the chuck wagon, familiarize everyone with it and allow time for more socializing among our members. Good job Dave! January ? - Dave Holt went to Hansen's on 2/9/06 with Randy Bass to repair the broken tongue jack on the Chuck Wagon. Someone had already replaced the jack with a new one. Dave says thank you, phantom repairman! Dave ran in to Jack Wrighter at Hansen's and the three of them (Jack, Randy and Dave) did some cleaning and repairs on the chuck wagon. Thanks to all three of them. January 19 - Dan Cilli was our guest speaker in January. Dan is an FAA Air Traffic Controller who now does safety seminars. He spoke at a recent AOPA Flight Instructor Refresher Clinic and delivered an excellent presentation on Airport Runway Incursions, and airport marking and traffic hazards. Dan's presentation has grown to include other areas of aviation safety involving the Air Traffic Control System. It was very interesting and entertaining as well as eye opening for may of us. 2005 December 3 - The chapter Christmas party was 12/3/05 @ Toonigh Baptist Church. Everyone that attended had a good time even though there was a small turn out. Sam Lyons was our guest. Sam did a fantastic job with his presentation and information surrounding his art. November 17 - The monthly EAA 268 chapter meeting was held on November 17th Jon Hansen Hangar, Cobb County Airport (RYY). The officer elections were held. Please congratulate the following members. These individuals will lead the club in 2006. Roger Doyle – President (not open for election this year) Bill Swatley – Vice President Terry Cusack – Treasuer (not open for election this year) Mike Casey – Secretary Dave Estapa has been appointed as a board member for 06 October 20 - The chapter cookout was held on October 20th at Calhoun Airport. We had a great turnout. Around thirty chapter members and guests attended. Our Vice President, Mike Casey and his Wife Karen, outdid themselves with the barbecue and brunswick stew. Other members brought dishes to share. Some pictures of the event. September 15 - The monthly EAA 268 chapter meeting was held on September 15th Jon Hansen Hangar, Cobb County Airport (RYY) We had a GREAT turnout for this meeting. During the meeting we got a B-25 report from Jerry Rosser. The plane is ready to fly. We also heard from Bret smith about losing his Piper in the waters off the coast of Florida. After the chapter meeting Sam Badget, a retired nuclear submarine captain, spoke to the group. Sam had some very interesting stories about his submarine adventures. No pictures but, here are some handouts Sam gave us about nuclear submarines. August 27 - Young Eagle Event Cartersville Airport. We had a good turn out of Young Eagles this morning. Here are some random shots of the event.
August 18 - Chapter meeting at Aaron Sims house. The chapter met at Aaron's house and enjoyed taking a look at his RV-10 under construction. We toured Aaron's shop including the newly built paint room.
July 21 - Chapter meeting. June 16 - Chapter meeting. June 11 - International Young Eagle Day (Weathered Out) May 19 - Chapter meeting. This meeting was used to discuss the new Light Sport Aircraft rules. We viewed a video sent to the chapter by EAA on this topics. April 28 - Chapter meeting. After the short meeting Ron and Sue Lowery presented their "Chasing Lewis and Clark Across America" story. Ron flew his AirCam along the same route that Lewis and Clark followed. April 4 - Board meeting. March 26 - We had a very successful Young Eagle Rally Saturday; 29 YE's and 2 FlyingStarts. Jack Wrighter was joined by Ed Kobs, Duane Roberts, and Sam Lyons of Warbird 17. Judy Wrighter and Chana Fleming handled all the paper work while Frank Eck, Charles Spegele, Mike Casey, Terry Cusack, Russ Jackson, Art LaPointe, Terry McCoy, and Kerry Bedsworth kept everything running smoothly. (Scream at me if I left someone out!) I took a lot of heat because I postponed the Chuck Wagon to the next rally. But we're ready now. Art has a firm handle on it. The CAP is asking us to fly with them on April 3o. Any pilots interested? Dave Holt March 17 - The monthly EAA 268 chapter meeting was held on March 17th at chapter member Estapa's house. The attendees enjoyed David's hospitality along with three presentations and a tour of David's Kit Fox and RV9 project.
