All meetings are held the third Thursday of the month from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Most meetings are held at Jon Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY). Notification will be issued (sometimes the week of the meeting) if the meeting location is adjusted. Please check here before going to Jon Hansen Hanger for a meeting. Directions to Jon Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY) can be found here. Exciting hanger information- Thanks to Rafael Garcia and Mike McIlheny who successfully presented our case at the Calhoun airport authority meeting, and were able to get their approval for a land lease for a hangar. The terms they approved were a $.03 per square foot per month initial rate for a 30 year lease. For our planned 3,000 sq ft hangar, that works out to a land lease of $90 per month. The rate increases modestly over time. The airport also approved our request to retain ownership of the hangar at the end of the lease and continue to pay a land lease rate after that. That prevents us from being evicted at the end of lease, losing our hangar investment and leaving us out in the cold because of a drastic increase in rent. We'll still have to wait for their attorney to draft the lease and that specific language, but we have accomplished everything we wanted with the airport authority--a permanent, affordable chapter hangar for EAA 268 members now and in the future. We now need to get the hangar committee going on vendor bids, site preparations, financing and hangar operational procedures. I expect that we'll be able to have a review of those items at our September meeting. With all of your support, I think we could move into a new chapter hangar before the end of the year. 2010 Meetings and Event information

August 28 - EAA has long promoted the future of aviation through youth programs like Young Eagles, Air Academy and lately through partnerships with Sporty’s and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University under the banner of the EAA Student Flight Plan. As you may have read in the most recent Young Eagles Newsletter, Aviation Insider, EAA was recently afforded the opportunity to participate in a future aviation careers session called “Focus On the Future” hosted by Fltops.com – an online aviation career information service. This free career fair is targeted specifically to youth who might be thinking of an aviation (flying or otherwise) career and will be held at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway on 28 August 2010. Full details can be found at: www.fltops.com/jobs. This career conference is FREE to any high school or college-age student, their parents or any career counselor who wants to learn more about aviation careers. June 19 - The Chapter hosted a burger flip at the Calhoun airport (KCZL). The food was good and we continued until we ran out of customers, volunteers, and burgers. We also hade a spot landing contest. Richard Ogletree was the winner. Here are some pictures for you (thanks Dave). The first picture is the winner (RichardT, the next shot is of Bill Swatling, and the thrid picture of the wonderful weather on the way. Calhoun's GA friendly FBO (yes, they do exist!) offered a $0.20 discount on fuel for attendees. This discount made their already low fuel price even more attractive (Calhoun's fuel prices are generally as low or lower than any in the area). The proceeds from the burger flip will go towards funding the Chapter's hangar project.
June 17 - Our monthly chapter m eting was held at Hansen Hanger, Cobb County Airport (RYY). Tim Wright of EAA 780 in Athens, GA was our speaker. Tim talked about Benjamin Thomas Epps who was an inventor, mechanic, and self-taught aviator. Inspired by the Wright Brothers’ first flight in 1903, he was the first to build and fly a motor driven airplane in Georgia . For three decade, he successfully designed and built several different airplanes at his Washington Street shops in Athens . The Ben Epps Airport opened in 1917. Epps died in 1937 of injuries received when the engine in one of his light bi-planes failed shortly after take-off during a test flight near Athens . With Athens being the cradle of aviation in Georgia , EAA chapter 780 in Athens is assisting the Epps Family and Athens Heritage Foundation raise the remainder of funds needed to construct a life size bronze statute of Ben T. Epps in downtown Athens . The statue will be erected across the street from the location of the shop where Epps built the first airplane in Georgia.
May 22 - EAA 268 hosted another burger flip at Calhoun, GA (CZL) on Saturday, May 22nd. Proceeds from the burger sales went to the chapter's hangar project. Images from the event are below.
April 3 - We hosted a burger flips at the Calhoun airport (KCZL). The food line will opened at 11:30 and continued until we ran out of customers, volunteers, and burgers.
