NEWSLETTER OF EAA CHAPTER 268, MARIETTA GEORGIA

FEB 2003

 THE PREZ SEZ:

Please forgive the newsletter being late.  I got a week out of synch due to week and haven’t recovered yet.  This is my first attempt at a newsletter in many years.  Kyle thought we should try to make the newsletter a “flat e-mail” to minimize the need for software like Adobe, etc.  Comments, criticisms, & smart remarks are all welcome.  So are all editorial contributions.

Thanks

Dave Shaw (Your new NL Editor)

 AIRCRAFT TRIVIA QUIZ

  1. This biplane has a wing span of 32’ and a cruising speed of 201mph (the most power version had 450 hp).  It was first flown with a fixed landing gear, but virtually all of them still flying have the electrically operated retractable gear.  It was last produced in 1948.  The USAF version was called the C-43.
  2. This small retractable low-wing single-engine airplane has a wingspan of 29’4” and a cruising speed of 140 mph.  It has a strong dihedral in both the tailplane and the wings, and a unique grill.  It was one of the first post-WWII airplanes to take advantage of the wind tunnel tested wing designs of NACA.
  3. This low wing fixed-gear taildragger is more common in Canada than in the US.  It has a wingspan of 34’4” and cruising speed of 124 mph.  It has a short greenhouse canopy and a large air intake that sits under the spinner and is offset sharply to the port side of the aircraft.  It was built from 1946 - 1953
